The Unrefined African Black Soap originated from West Africa particularly among the Yoruba culture in Nigeria and in Ghana. It is usually called “Ose-Dudu” (Dudu means black). The soap is traditionally made from plantain skin which makes it a rich source of Vitamins A & E and iron. The plantain skin is dried and then roasted in the clay oven along with cocoa pods (shell of the cocoa fruit). The longer the skin is cooked, the darker it becomes. Essential oils such as Shea Butter and Palm Kernel are added to the roasted skin to form soap.

The Unrefined African Black Soap helps with deep skin cleansing because of its antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, relieving unpleasant skin conditions such as: Acne, Blackheads, Eczema, Psoriasis, Skin discolorations Brown spots, Razor bumps, Ringworm, Skin rashes, Measles, Chicken pox  and body odors.

The specialized knowledge such as farming, hunting and using herbs for medicine acquired by our ancestors paved way for naturally selecting the right types of plants and shrubs to relieve different types of skin blemishes. It is only wise to know that Unrefined African Black Soap and the Unrefined Camwood Powder were painstakingly paired together due to the enormous skincare nurturing & rejuvenating properties they both contain. Other natural products containing skin revitalizing properties can be added to the black soap and camwood mixture, such as: Natural honey, Turmeric powder, alaoe vera gel & Natural essential oils.

It is the mixture of the Unrefined African Black Soap Powder and the Camwood Powder that generated the coined name “Dudu Osun”, simply denoting the fact that Dudu and Osun are mixed together.

Often times,  the cosmetic companies use black coloring or dye to imitate the genuine African Black Soap. Consumers must be careful while shopping for this unique soap. It is impossible to find the original and traditionally made African Black Soap in bar shape, these ones have been chemically made and contain practically no natural benefits. It is for this reason that the chemically manufactured black soap cause skin irritation, abrasion and generally act contrary to the relieving of skin blemishes.
