Winter is the coldest season of the year and does a lot of havoc to the skin if care is not taken.

During the winter, the humidity is low, our skin gets dry and stripped of its natural oils. So how then do we get through the winter season without skin cracks, excessive dryness and lock in moisture on our skins?

As we know, moisturizers are ideal for dry skin but we have been bombarded by countless jars and bottles of lotions, oils and cremes for the face, hands and the body by manufacturers who consider these products as “sophisticated” with all the synthetic ingredients that go into them.

A better approach to skin care might be to turn the hands of the clock back away from synthetic formulas and utilize the benefits of the purely natural moisturizers- Unrefined Shea Butter and Unrefined Coconut Oil! Many might having been using the shea butter without even knowing because it is the basis of most manufactured moisturizers except that the shea butter has been stripped of its essential properties and no longer as effective as it should be.

Unrefined Shea Butter

Unrefined Shea Butter contains all the amazing skin care and healing properties. What sets the shea butter apart from other seed oils is its exceptionally large healing properties. The moisturizers in shea butter are the same as the ones produced by the sebaceous glands (oil glands) in the skin. The vitamin E, vitamin A and allantoin within the shea butter protects the skin from drying out and aging.

Unrefined Coconut Oil

Unrefined Coconut Oil naturally contains real moisture unlike the manufactured moisturizers which contain water and will evaporate quickly leaving the skin dry. It is ideal for the skin improving the lipid and moisture content of the skin. There are different types of coconut oils in the market but the ideal type to moisturize the skin especially in harsh weathers should be left in its original nature- not be refined, bleached, colored and no additives.

Mixing unrefined coconut oil and unrefined shea butter together is highly nourishing to the skin and would lock in moisture. The skin will benefit from all the natural healing properties contained in both products. The mixture can be used any time of the day to combat the skin itch and dryness in the winter season. It can also be used as an overnight treatment for the hair as the dryness of the winter season isn’t kind to our hair as well.

Leave out the shea butter in the sun to melt or stand the jar containing the shea butter in a bowl of hot to melt  water as opposed to microwaving it. The unadulterated unrefined coconut oil should be liquid in nature and doesn’t need to be melt.

Let’s not forget the type of soap and cleanser we use on our skin during the winter season can exacerbate the skin problems. The chemically manufactured soaps contain skin drying properties and would therefore strip skin off its natural oils and leave tons of chemicals deposited in the skin which are detrimental to the health.

African Black Soap With Lavender

Unrefined African Black Soap With Lavender provides the skin with the necessary gentle cleanse without packing chemicals unto the skin. Moisture is sealed back unto the skin due to the natural oils and ingredients used to make the unrefined black soap.

Asides from the coldness of our surroundings during the winter season, dryness of the skin can occur from indoor heating causing our skin to lose moisture on the epidermis (outer layer of the skin).

Let us protect our skin which is the biggest external organ of our body in the coming winter season.
